In 2006 the 3D Lab started utilizing rapid prototyping to aid in pre-planning of complex cases. This developed into a cardiac modeling project, which I directed, with extensive customization and project design, primarily for the device industry (used both in device training and bench top testing). <image:caption>I’ve always found the Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus loudspeaker conceptually interesting, though the design itself has never engaged me. While experimenting in Rhino with the helix curve, a shape arose that looked like a ram’s horn, which brought Norse imagery to mind. With that design insight, the project quickly focused, sized around a 10cm full range driver manufactured in Norway - the speaker is just over 18 inches tall.</image:caption>

<image:caption>While the interface for the advanced version would have been similar to the Lite version in some aspects, the overall interface would have been more complicated given the substantial increase in anatomical structures incorporated into the 3D model. A left side text display would have dynamically centered onto which ever structure was currently closest to the viewing camera. Finger scrolling through the text display was to snap the 3D model orientation to visualize that structure. Visibility controls for individual structures as well as quick hierarchical visibility toggling would have been built into the text list. A simple full text display of the highlighted structure and two closest structures could have been pulled up from the bottom of the display. Many other features were planned for the advanced version.</image:caption>
